One Deep Breath: Shadow and Light

Night on the mountain
I turn my face to the stars
Moonlight washes down

Emerging from shadow,
Broad trees drink the noonday sun,
Creating sanctuary.

Flame haired girl laughs,
Running in the summer sun,
Playing tag with shade.

Cool me in starlight
Summer breezes fan my face
Standing in night's shadow.

Swimming in the lake,
Rippled water, dappled shade
Watching tired cows drink.

Yes, they are all very painterly. I think the first has to be my favorite. :-)

Lovely, all of these. I really can't decide but I think the 4th speaks to me strongest. Well done!

Beautiful haiku -- I can totally feel the summer days and nights in them. I especially love "turn my face to the stars/ moonlight washes down" and "cool me in starlight" and "watching tired cows drink". Really nice imagery in all your haiku -- feels like a sanctuary!

It seems like there is something for everyone here. My favourite is the girl one - 'playing tag with shade' is such a great line. Well done.

And - coming back to the words - in the end I think I still like the red hair girl best (but only just).

The flame-haired girl having fun drew me in. They are all lovely, but that girl is special.
