One Deep Breath: our feathered friends
After wild summer storms
Birds return, wondering:
Where did that ole pecan tree go?
Intrepid seagulls
Ride cool ocean winds.
Grey whispers.
Songbirds chatter.
Trees shake in the bustle
Until hawks fly near.
I rage like high waves
Until soft doves arrive
Bearing olives
Snowy white owl
Solemnly watches
Waiting for a mouse.

These little pictures are marvelous. I don't know why but the fourth speaks to me strongest. Great job!
I enjoyed all these, but the second one particularly, it reminds me of watching gulls from a boat!
They are great but I prefer the last but one.
These small word pictures are amazing. Complete pictures in a few concise words. "Grey whispers" was the best. I'll never look at seagulls the same way again even at their noisiest.
Fantastic haiku, each a slice of what it is like to be a bird. I too like the dove one the most.
I used to sit in the schoolroom, looking out the window, wishing I could be up there with the birds, instead of sitting there bored out of my mind. Or remembering how the seagulls would coast through the air when we made the long, hot journey to the ocean in summer.
And that pecan tree used to sit in front of my grandparents' house until it was uprooted by a tornado (that thankfully spared the house, instead depositing the tree in front of the barn.) That same summer, my grandfather took sick, and when my uncle told us about the poor birds looking for that strong tree loaded with sweet pecans, we thought of our own loss.
I really like the images in the fourth haiku. All of them present such clear images. Well done.
Oh! These all are so beautiful! Such vivid images. I especially love the lines "grey whispers" and "bearing olives".
:)
The second and fourth are my favorites. You must be a birder.
Wonderful images. Grey whispers is an inspired description. Enjoyed them all!
I agree, these are wonderful images, I enjoyed them all, but the last one is my favourite. I have a soft spot for owls.
Like others I think 'grey whispers' is fantastic writing. I really like the owl one too, you've captured the thoughtfulness they seem to possess.
You captured a lot with this simple haiku. Like a little nature slide film. Lovely!
